Nicholas James Sasse (B. 2001) is a composer from the Pacific Northwest region of North America. Nick considers himself as a sonic journalist, who's goal is to make notated music accessible and impactful to the common listener. Nick pursues his philosophy through his compositions: always drawing meaning in everything he writes. Nick uses his music as a tool to spark conversations about life and the world. Therefore, Nick’s music is not only categorized as fun to listen to, but also as music which evokes emotions in people, immersing them in musical journeys which better connect them to the world, and to their own self.
Writing music is how Nick processes and understand the world around him. He believes that music can express the feelings of the soul in ways language cannot, making composition his most honest form of communication. For Nick, his music says what words never could.
Nick is a graduate of Central Washington University where he studied under the direction of Dr. Jiyoun Chung. Notable achievements include winning competitions such as the Central Washington University 2023 Symphony Orchestra Composition Competition and the Trudie Woll Memorial Composition Competition, being a finalist in the ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Awards and Profession Orchestra Division of the American Prize in Music, having his music programmed in The College Music Society Northwest Regional Conference while being honored with their Student Composition Award, being an invited composer in the 2023 Texas New Music Festival, being a composition fellow for the Alba Music Festival, and having his music performed by the Brazilian National Symphony Orchestra. Nick’s music has been performed throughout the United States, Europe, and South America.
Nick is self-published under SasseSounds LLC. Also an active educator, Nick serves as the Director of Music for Cedarcrest High School in Duvall Washington.
